All I had was a bunch of old photos a last name and the name
of a town in Italy where my Father was born.
When we would have family reunions all the cousins would
tell stories about the farm in Tuscany. I was so entranced by the fascination
of it all. My mind would take to fields of wild flowers, lemons growing on the
trees and of course the farm animals.
All I ever wanted to do was go there and see it all.
So I wandered onto one of those find your ancestors sites
and found very little information. I wanted to see the house my Father lived in
and the farm he worked everyday.
So I went to www.agrifeudi.com.
This company is located in Rome, Italy.
What they do is magnificent!
I gave them the information I had and then planned my trip.
When I arrived they had a driver waiting for me. As I
approached the town I began to cry at the nostalgia of it all.
The Mayor of the town and the villagers all were there to
greet me like I was some diplomat!
I was given flowers and welcomed as one of their own.
They took me to a beautiful village home. Then the show
began.
Dinner was recreated by a team of people who were dressed in
clothing from the time of the century I was researching. Homemade pasta they way Nonna would have made
it, fresh made cheese, eggs from the hen. Pastries made from scratch.
Then the dancing began. The people were dressed in
traditional clothing, the music, and the smells; oh my God I was enchanted and immersed
into this culture.
I saw the cemetery where Nonno and Nonna were buried.
I was provided with documents of marriage licenses and
property deeds.
I even met some distant relatives.
This experience will live with me forever and I finally felt
like I went home.
